Atlanta Braves outfielder Hector Olivera’s paid administrative leave has been extended through May 3 in an agreement by Major League Baseball and the players’ union.

The 31-year-old Cuban defector is accused of assaulting a woman at a hotel outside Washington, D.C., in April and faces a misdemeanor charge. Paid administrative leave normally is limited to seven days under baseball’s domestic violence policy.

Olivera signed a six-year, $62.5-million contract with the Dodgers last May and was traded to Atlanta on July 30. He continues to receive his $4 million salary while on leave.
