No. 5 Iowa gets by Illinois, 77-65

Peter Jok scored 23 points, Jarrod Uthoff had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 5 Iowa got past Illinois, 77-65, Sunday at Champaign, Ill.

Jok took over early in the second half, scoring seven of the first 10 points for the Hawkeyes (19-4, 10-1 Big Ten Conference) and led them to a 48-36 lead with 16 minutes 48 seconds to play.

Iowa led by as many as 20 points midway through the half.

Adam Woodbury had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawkeyes.

Jalen Coleman-Lands led the Illini (11-13, 3-8) with 17 points. He made five of 11 three-point shots.

No. 12 Southern Methodist 92, at South Florida 58: Shake Milton scored 22 points and Nic Moore had 17 for the Mustangs (20-2, 9-2 American Athletic Conference), who matched their season high with 14 three-point baskets. They shot 60%.

The Mustangs scored the game’s first 11 points, and opened the second half with an 8-0 run to build their lead to 30 points.

Southern Methodist tied the best 22-game start in school history. The Mustangs won 26 of their first 28 games before finishing 26-4 in 1955-56.

Jahmal McMurray led the Bulls (5-20, 2-10) with 18 points.

No. 17 Miami 75, at Georgia Tech 68: Sheldon McClellan scored 22 points and the Hurricanes (18-4, 7-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) won for the fifth time in their last six games.

All of the conference losses by the Yellow Jackets (12-11, 2-8) have been by less than 10 points.

Marcus Georges-Hunt scored 19 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Minnesota 112, at Northwestern 106: Rachel Banham tied an NCAA record with 60 points, with 10 coming in the first overtime and eight in the second, to lead the Golden Gophers (16-7, 8-4 Big Ten).

In matching the 60 points put up by Cindy Brown of Long Beach State against San Jose State on Feb. 16, 1987, the 5-foot-9 guard made 19 of 32 shots, including eight of 15 three-point shots, and made 14 of 16 free throws.

Banham, a senior, shattered the school (44) and Big Ten records (49) for points in a game.
