Central Florida rallies to defeat Brigham Young, 31-24

Justin Holman threw a four-yard touchdown pass to running back William Stanback on the first possession of overtime and Central Florida beat Brigham Young, 31-24, on Thursday night after overcoming a 14-point deficit in the second half.

Christian Stewart’s fourth-down pass for BYU fell incomplete in the end zone to end the game.

Stanback added a rushing touchdown. Holman was 30 of 51 for a career-high 326 yards and threw two scoring passes.

In his first start, Stewart struggled early, but recovered to complete 22 of 37 passes for 153 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

The Knights (3-2) took an early first-half lead before falling into a 24-10 hole in the third quarter.

BYU (4-2) scored 21 consecutive points to take a 24-10 lead early in the third quarter. UCF was able to answer with a pair of touchdowns to tie the score.

Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly said the five players held out of practices and the first five games of the season because of an academic dishonesty investigation will not be available again Saturday when the sixth-ranked Irish play host to North Carolina. Cornerback KeiVarae Russell, receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams, linebacker Kendall Moore and defensive back Eilar Hardy have been held out since August. ... Florida State Coach Jimbo Fisher said leading receiver Rashad Greene was expected to play against Syracuse on Saturday. The senior wideout suffered a concussion last week in a 43-3 victory over Wake Forest, but fully participated in practice Thursday.
