Update: Still seeking its first victory of 2011 after league losses at home to Kansas City and Colorado and a U.S. Open Cup defeat on the road at Portland, Chivas USA tries its luck in Canada. Coach Robin Fraser’s side, playing a man down for the entire second half after the ejection of defender Andrew Boyens, put up stiff resistance in Portland and the Timbers won on two goals in the final six minutes. “At that point we were just figuring out ways to stay in the game, to be quite honest,” Fraser said. “We just talked about battling and making it difficult for them. . . . I was really proud of the effort.” Toronto defeated Portland, 2-0, in its most recent match, with 24-year-old Dutch forward Javier Martina, formerly of Ajax Amsterdam, scoring both goals. Toronto is coached by former Ajax and Dutch international midfielder Aron Winter.
