Update: Having managed to earn a point on the other side of Canada a couple of weeks ago — from a 1-1 tie at Toronto FC — Chivas USA now tries its luck against the expansion Whitecaps. The Canadian team has several attacking options, not least of them the Whitecaps’ 6-foot-4 French forward Eric Hassli and Brazilian striker Camilo, who each have scored three goals this season. Vancouver also features former Chivas forward Atiba Harris. The Chivas defense has given up two goals in its last three MLS matches, but the team is still seeking its first victory of 2011. Meanwhile, Coach Robin Fraser is trying to decide whether to use the club’s position atop the allocation table to acquire U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber, who met Friday’s deadline and came to terms with MLS, which holds all player contracts. Feilhaber, a former UCLA player from Irvine, had been playing in Denmark. Midfielder Simon Elliott traveled with Chivas to Vancouver and could see some playing time. Defender Jimmy Conrad and midfielder Paulo Nagamura are still sidelined by injuries, and midfielder/defender Mariano Trujillo is listed as questionable.
