Heath Bell will remain as the San Diego Padres’ closer.
The deadline for working out a deal with the San Francisco Giants, who claimed him on waivers Wednesday, passed without a trade being completed. It is believed the Giants claimed Bell primarily to keep him from going to the Arizona Diamondbacks, or any of the league’s other top teams.
