Mohamed Dahmane apparently not in Chivas USA’s plans

If Chivas USA was looking to sign European forward Mohamed “Momo” Dahmane, nobody told Coach Robin Fraser.

French websites had linked the French-Algerian striker to the team early in the week -- just days after Fraser acknowledged that signing an attacker was a priority.

Last Saturday the coach said the team was seeking offensive firepower, but would need to wait for paperwork and visas to clear. The implication then was that help would come from abroad. But Fraser said Tuesday that it won’t be Dahmane.

“I don’t even know who you’re talking about,” Fraser said. “What’s his name? You’re saying French-Algerian -- I’m like I’ll take [Zinedine] Zidane. . . . Seriously I’ve never heard that name before in my life.”

Star-struck

Two Chivas players will log some overtime next week, and they couldn’t be happier about the extra work.

Midfielder Nick LaBrocca and defender Heath Pearce were named this week to the MLS All-Star team that will face Manchester United on Wednesday in Harrison, N.J.

It will be a special night for LaBrocca, who leads the team with six goals. A Rutgers alumnus and New Jersey native, LaBrocca, 26, is expecting his immediate family and many friends to attend as he plays in his first All-Star game. He is actually excited to see his parents and said he’s planning a family dinner.

“We’re trying to figure out that right now,” he joked Thursday.

This is the second go-round for Pearce, who represented FC Dallas in last year’s All-Star game against Man U.

“Last year, unfortunately, the All-Stars didn’t get a good result, but it was a fun experience nonetheless,” Pearce said. “We want to beat them.”

Road warriors

Chivas has been under extra pressure to put points on the board in July. Four of the team’s last five games have been at the Home Depot Center, but its next five matches are on the road. The uneven schedule has prompted Fraser to contextualize each result by foreshadowing what could be a tough August.

“Where we are, every game has pressure to win,” Fraser said Thursday. “Yeah, you start to pay attention to the playoff race now.”

Despite the coach’s concerns, the team’s results have been about the same on the road and at home. As of Friday, Chivas was 3-4-4 in Carson, 2-3-4 everywhere else.
