Update: Some (alleged) rest for the weary. At least the Galaxy’s Landon Donovan didn’t have to get on a plane to head to Belgium for the U.S. men’s national team’s upcoming friendly, on Tuesday, after going 90 minutes against Costa Rica on Friday night. Kansas City, in contrast, probably seems like a short cab ride away. So the Galaxy will have the services of Donovan, a welcome boost, especially since teammates Robbie Keane and Chris Birchall remain away on international duty. The relatively light recent schedule picks up in a major way with nine games in the next 30 days. “They’ve demonstrated the last two or three months that they’re not only a good team but a real good team at home,” Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena said of Kansas City. “It’s going to be a tough game. They’re fairly mobile. We have to do a good job of pulling in as a group and recognizing where they are and challenging first ball in.” The latest injured Galaxy defender was Gregg Berhalter, who strained the mid-foot area of his right foot in a recent CONCACAF Champions League victory. “I would think by the end of the month he’ll be ready to play,” Arena said. “That’s plenty time but you never know with those things. He seems, in my view, a little ahead of schedule.” Injured goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, out since June 25 with a broken left arm, was able to resume a full training schedule last week.
