Watch Lindsey Vonn crash hard at World Cup skiing event Friday [Video]

Lindsey Vonn’s attempt for a fifth straight victory in a World Cup Alpine Skiing speed event came to a crashing halt when she slid off course and went into three nets during a women’s downhill event at Val D’Isere, France, on Friday.

Vonn did not talk to reporters after the race, but did manage a “not feeling great” before getting on the athlete bus later.

As you can see in the video, Vonn’s right ski catches a rut and she veers off course, going through two layers of protective netting before coming to a rest in a third. The speed at which she hits the nets is amazing to see.

After a few moments collecting herself, Vonn managed to ski to the bottom of the hill unassisted.

Lara Gut of Switzerland won the race, with Leanne Smith of the U.S. in second and Switzerland’s Nadja Kamer in third. Smith was one of four Americans in the top 10 -- with Julia Mancuso seventh, Alice McKennis eighth and Stacey Cook 10th.

“I’m beyond excited. This is something that you dream about that you put your heart and soul into,” Smith said. “Today was my day. I’m really happy with the outcome. I’ve been on the World Cup team for a few years now and starting to feel comfortable. Hopefully, you’ll see more of me now.”

Before Friday, Vonn had finished in the top five in her last 27 World Cup downhill races.
