Randy Moss is getting another chance in the NFL.

Moss is back after reaching a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, announced by the team late Monday.

He will fill a big void for the reigning NFC West champions.

The 35-year-old Moss worked out with the 49ers earlier in the day — and former NFL quarterback and current Coach Jim Harbaugh participated.

Moss, who worked out last Tuesday with the New Orleans Saints, spent a year out of football and last played for New England, Minnesota and Tennessee during a rocky 2010 season.

The Oakland Raiders plan to release tight end Kevin Boss only one year into a four-year contract.

Boss’ agent, Scott Smith, tweeted Monday night that the Raiders told him Boss will be released Tuesday and become an unrestricted free agent.

Boss signed a $16-million, four-year contract last summer to replace Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller. Boss wasn’t utilized much in coach Hue Jackson’s offense, finishing the season with 28 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

The NCAA infractions committee hit North Carolina’s football program with a one-year postseason ban, a reduction of 15 scholarships and three years of probation following an investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct.

In a ruling Monday, the committee said the school was responsible for multiple violations, including academic fraud and a failure to monitor its football program. It also issued a three-year show-cause penalty for former assistant coach John Blake, who had received personal loans from an NFL agent.

The postseason ban is for this fall and prevents the Tar Heels from playing in either the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game or a bowl game. The scholarship reductions would be five per year, also starting in the fall.
