Angels rally for 6-5 win over Rangers

Reporting from Tempe, Ariz. -- Kole Calhoun and Randall Grichuk each hit run-scoring singles in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday and the Angels rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Texas Rangers in Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Peter Bourjos, who made two over-the-shoulder catches after long runs in center field, also hit a key single in the ninth inning and scored the winning run with a nice hook slide. It was the Angels’ fifth Cactus League victory in a row.

Texas had tied the score, 2-2, on Dusty Brown’s two-run home run against Kevin Jepsen in the eighth, but Jorge Cantu, who is battling for a utility job, gave the Angels a 4-2 lead with a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the inning.

The Rangers tied it in the ninth when Greg Miclat hit a two-run double to right-center field against Jason Isringhausen, the veteran right-hander who has a 9.82 earned-run average in four games and is struggling to find his command.

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols hit his team-leading fourth home run, a laser to left field against Mark Hamburger, in the first inning.

“Oh my God, that was a two-iron,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “That was unbelievable.”

Designated hitter Bobby Abreu was hitless in four at-bats, his average falling to .108 (four for 37).
