The Izod IndyCar Series next year will again finish its season with a night race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, the series announced Sunday night. The series unveiled a 2013 schedule with 19 races overall, up from 15 this year.

The airplane taking the Baltimore Orioles to the Tampa area on Sunday night had its flight diverted to Jacksonville because of smoke in the forward galley. Michael Stewart, spokesman for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, told the Associated Press that the plane was inspected and deemed OK to fly. ... The AL West-leading Texas Rangers will be without reliever Mike Adams for the rest of the regular season. Adams said Sunday that he has been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, which causes numbness and tingling in the fingers.

Antron Brown raced to his sixth top-fuel victory of the season, winning the NHRA Midwest Nationals at Madison, Ill., to increase his championship points lead. Brown beat championship rival Spencer Massey in the final round and moved 21 points ahead with three races left in the Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Brown had a run of 3.766 seconds at 325.22 mph.

Juan Monaco of Argentina beat Julien Benneteau of France, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, to win the Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur for his fourth title this season but his first on hard courts. ... Second-seeded Richard Gasquet won his first tournament of the year when he beat Gilles Simon, 6-2, 6-1, in an all-French final of the Thailand Open at Bangkok.

Former Oklahoma football coach Chuck Fairbanks, 79, is battling brain cancer and says he’s about to undergo treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. Fairbanks led the Sooners to a 52-15-1 record and three Big Eight titles in six seasons.
