Angels agree to a three-year deal with catcher Chris Iannetta

The Angels didn’t waste any time getting started on their busy off-season agenda, agreeing to terms Friday with catcher Chris Iannetta on a three-year contract.

Iannetta, 29, acquired from Colorado last winter for pitcher Tyler Chatwood, had a $5-million option for 2013, but his new deal runs through 2015.

Iannetta hit .240 with nine home runs and 26 runs batted in during an injury-plagued 2012 season in which he played only 79 games.

He fractured his right wrist when he was hit by a pitch during Jered Weaver’s no-hitter against the Minnesota Twins on May 2, and then suffered a forearm strain in early June while attempting to come back from the first injury.

A native of Providence, R.I., Iannetta has a .236 career average, a .354 on-base percentage, 72 homers, 78 doubles and 262 RBIs in seven big-league seasons.
