Oregon jumps LSU for No. 2 spot in latest college football polls

There is not a new No.1 in college football. That spot is tightly held by Alabama, which only failed Saturday by not recording its third straight shutout.

There is a new No. 2, however, as Oregon’s emphatic 49-0 win over Arizona late Saturday night pushed the Ducks ahead of Louisiana State in Sunday’s Associated Press and USA Today coaches’ college football polls.

LSU struggled to a 12-10 win at Auburn.

USC stayed at No. 13 in the AP but dropped one position, to No. 13, in the coaches’ index. UCLA, a loser at home to Oregon State, dropped out of both polls.

The top six of the AP and USA Today polls are the same. Alabama is first followed by Oregon, LSU, Florida State, Georgia and South Carolina.

Kansas State, after its upset of Oklahoma in Norman, moved up eight spots to No. 7 in the AP, followed by Stanford, West Virginia and Notre Dame. Oregon State is No. 18 in the AP while Oklahoma slid from No. 6 to No. 16.

The USA Today poll has West Virginia at No. 7, followed by Kansas State, Stanford and Texas. Notre Dame is 11 while Oklahoma slid 10 spots to No. 15.

The good news is the coaches’ poll finally put Oregon State ahead of Wisconsin. Of course, it took the Beavers defeating two ranked schools, including Wisconsin. Oregon State is No. 21 in the coaches’ index, two spots ahead of the Badgers.
