RANCHO MIRAGE -- Stacy Lewis, the American who climbed to No. 1 in the world rankings two weeks ago, finished the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club with a final-round even-par 72 and a four-day total of 287.

When the day is over she’ll be in the middle of the pack. Lewis, who won here two years ago, didn’t seem distraught about the mediocre week.

“I’ve got a lot of events to play, and I’ve won twice already this year,” said Lewis, who will remain No. 1 in the Rolex World Rankings that measure the performance of the LPGA golfers.

“It’s been crazy,” said Lewis of the interest she’s noticed since becoming No. 1. “I expected to get attention at the course and at the tournaments, but I’ve been surprised at things off the course, just going into a Walgreens or CVS and getting recognized. It’s kind of surprising.”

Michelle Wie, who gets recognized almost everywhere, finished with a round of 73 and a four-day total of even-par 288. For the 23-year-old Wie, who missed the cut in three of her previous five tournaments this year, she said she was pleased Sunday with the progression of her game before she left the course.

Lewis will leave here to make an appearance at the Masters to receive an award and she’ll be heading to Atlanta to appear on CNN with Dr. Sanjay Gupta to talk about scoliosis, a curvature of the spine that Lewis needed surgery for as a teenager. “And we’re going to get some recognition for the LPGA Tour,” Lewis added.

Inbee Park, the Kraft Nabisco leader, has a six-shot advantage through 13 holes and seems certain to win.

Fellow Korean So Yeon Ryu is second at 10 under. She’s working on a Sunday round of six under through 17 holes.
