Restart gives Kevin Harvick the win at Richmond

Kevin Harvick won Saturday night’s race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway by plowing through traffic on a two-lap sprint to the finish.

Juan Pablo Montoya was trying to hold off Harvick for his first win since 2010 when the caution came out with four laps remaining. It sent the race into two laps of overtime, and most of the field gave up track position to pit for tires.

Montoya came off pit road in sixth and Harvick was seventh for the restart. But Harvick rocketed through the field to snatch away the win.

Clint Bowyer was second, Joey Logano third, and Montoya settled for fourth.

Tony Stewart restarted in fifth but was bumped out of the way by Kurt Busch and wound up 18th.

Nelson Piquet Jr. was involved in a post-race altercation Friday night at Richmond that led to the arrest of two crew members for Richard Childress Racing, his team said Saturday.

Piquet and RCR driver Brian Scott tangled on the track during Friday night’s Nationwide Series race and in the pits after. Crews for both drivers confronted each other when Scott went over to Piquet’s car, and Piquet shoved him and then kicked Scott in the groin.

Henrico County, Va., police said there was a fight in the motorhome lot that led to the arrests of two crew members. Michael Searce was arrested on two charges of misdemeanor assault, and Thomas Costello was arrested on one count of misdemeanor assault. They were released early Saturday.

Glover increases his lead

Lucas Glover increased his lead to two strokes in the Zurich Classic to remain in position for his first victory in two years.

The 2009 U.S. Open winner shot a two-under-par 70 to reach 14 under at TPC Louisiana in Avondale.

Kyle Stanley, Jimmy Walker, Billy Horschel and D.A. Points were tied for second.

Roger Chapman and Jay Don Blake teamed to shoot an 11-under 61 to take a one-stroke lead in the Champions Tour’s Legends of Golf better-ball tournament at Savannah, Ga. Chapman and Blake were 17 under.

Carlota Ciganda shot a five-under 66 to take a two-stroke lead over the world’s No. 1 player and an LPGA Tour rookie into the final round of the inaugural North Texas LPGA Shootout at Irving.

Ciganda was at 11-under 202 after her second 66 of the week. Top-ranked Inbee Park finished her 67 with consecutive birdies. Caroline Masson, the leader after each of the first two rounds, recovered from an opening double bogey for a 69.

Seven-time winner Rafael Nadal defeated Milos Raonic, 6-4, 6-0, to reach the final of the Barcelona Open in Spain.

He will play for the title Sunday against Nicolas Almagro in a match between Spaniards. Almargo defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber, 6-2, 6-1, in the other semifinal to advance to his second clay-court final of the year.

Defending champion Maria Sharapova will face Li Na in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix at Stuttgart, Germany, on Sunday in a matchup of the last two French Open winners.

Sharapova rallied in the third set to beat Angelique Kerber, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, before second-seeded Li followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States.

The NBA suspended Knicks guard J.R. Smith for Game 4 of New York’s playoff series against Boston on Sunday for elbowing the Celtics’ Jason Terry in the chin.

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner said that he wants Mitt Romney to lead a bid to bring the Olympic Games to the city and its Mexican neighbor, Tijuana.

Filner, a Democrat, said he plans to ask the former Republican presidential nominee to be honorary chairman of the bid for the 2024 Summer Games.

Romney oversaw the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also owns a house in La Jolla.
