NBA trades: Ronnie Brewer to OKC, J.J. Reddick to Bucks and more

Share

While the biggest news as the NBA’s trade deadline came and went Thursday was that there was no real big news, several transactions that did take place are making headlines a day later now that the dust has settled.

Ronnie Brewer gives the Oklahoma City Thunder another defensive option. He began the season as a starter for the New York Knicks but has been struggling for playing time since the return of guard Iman Shumpert in January. Averaging 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds, the seventh-year player is expected to be a reserve for the Thunder.

Part-time shooting guard J.J. Redick’s move from the Orlando Magic to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a six-player trade was probably the biggest move of the day. As The Times’ Ben Bolch pointed out, that’s as big an indicator as any that breaking news was hard to come by on this particular trade-deadline day.

Still, Tobias Harris could benefit greatly after being traded to Orlando as part of the same transaction. The former first-round pick in 2011 has averaged 11.5 minutes and 4.9 points a game in his two seasons with the Bucks. Both of those numbers should increase as he joins a young Magic core.

Jordan Crawford brings his 13.2 points, 3.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds to the Boston Celtics backcourt, which needed some help in the scoring department with injuries to Rajon Rondo and the now-traded Leandro Barbosa. In exchange for the third-year guard, the Washington Wizards receive 12-year veteran center Jason Collins and Barbosa’s expiring contract.
