Spring training: Angels, San Francisco play to 8-8 tie

Share

Angels 8, San Francisco 8

AT THE PLATE: Third baseman Kaleb Cowart, the Angels’ top prospect, had two hits, including a double against Giants closer Sergio Romo in the two-run ninth inning. Two other well-regarded prospects, second baseman Taylor Lindsey and outfielder Travis Witherspoon, each drove in two runs.

ON THE MOUND: Nick Maronde, the Angels’ top left-handed pitching prospect, retired four of eight batters. He has been lifted in mid-inning in both of his spring outings.

EXTRA BASES: Catcher Hank Conger, who needs to display defensive prowess to impress Manager Mike Scioscia, badly overthrew third base on a stolen-base attempt, giving the Giants an unearned run. Nonroster infielder Bill Hall is listed as day to day after leaving Wednesday’s game because of tightness in his right quadriceps. The Angels promoted nonroster reliever Chad Cordero to major league camp, giving the coaching staff a better look at the former All-Star closer before his expected minor league assignment.

UP NEXT: vs. the Dodgers, Thursday, noon PST at Camelback Ranch. On the air: TV: Prime Ticket; Radio: 830.
