MINNEAPOLIS — Metta World Peace sustained torn cartilage in his left knee during Monday’s game at Golden State, the latest somber injury news for a Lakers team that has had plenty of it this season.

World Peace is to fly back to Los Angeles on Wednesday and consult with team doctor Steve Lombardo. A timetable for his return will then be issued.

In a tweet that was quickly deleted from his account, World Peace apologized for being injured and said he hoped to be back in a week and a half. It was safe to say the Lakers did not share his optimistic outlook.

World Peace was injured in the first half of the Lakers’ 109-103 loss to the Warriors. He refused to disclose to reporters how he was injured, but it was believed that he slipped on a wet spot at Oracle Arena.

“I can’t wait to get back but our team is so good,” World Peace added on Twitter. “We will win and get into the playoffs.”

Jodie Meeks could take World Peace’s place in the starting lineup Wednesday against Minnesota. Kobe Bryant could then slide down to small forward, with Meeks at shooting guard. World Peace is averaging 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds.
