Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown cleared to run

Sprint star Veronica Campbell-Brown can resume competing immediately after Jamaican sports authorities resolved her doping case with only a public warning.

Five months ago, Campbell-Brown tested positive for a banned diuretic. While under suspension, she missed Jamaica’s national championships and could not compete in the recent world championships.

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Assn. said in a statement Wednesday that its disciplinary committee “recommended that a reprimand without any period of ineligibility would be appropriate.”

Though the full text of the committee’s report was not available, it is believed Campbell-Brown unintentionally violated doping rules. Jamaican authorities said she did not take the diuretic to enhance performance.

The sprinter, who has won multiple Olympic medals, was not available for comment.

Jamaican anti-doping authorities have come under pressure in the months since numerous athletes from the island nation failed tests.

Sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson, as well as athletes from other events, still face adjudication of their cases.
