Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was named Major League Soccer’s player of the week on Tuesday, three days after he scored two goals and assisted on another in his team’s 3-0 win over San Jose.

The honor was the second for Keane this season and the third for a Galaxy player in the last month.

Keane, who leads the team in goals and assists, helped get the scoring started with a perfectly timed pass to free Landon Donovan, who capped a long run by deking Earthquakes’ keeper Jon Busch out of the net, then slipping the ball into the goal behind him.

That assist was Keane’s 10th, making him the only MLS player with double-digit totals for goals and assists this season.

Keane’s first goal came on a penalty kick just before halftime, then he added his 12th score of the season in the 67th minute, volleying a short pass past Busch from the center of the penalty area.

Keane will miss the Galaxy’s match this weekend to play for his native Ireland in a pair of World Cup qualifiers.
