Aaron Hernandez pleads not guilty to all charges in Odin Lloyd slaying

Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and five other charges Friday following his indictment in the killing of Odin Lloyd.

The former New England Patriots tight end firmly answered “not guilty” to all six charges, which include weapons and ammunition possession.

The indictment in Fall River, Mass., sends the case to state Superior Court, where jury trials in murder cases are held.

Hernandez, 23, will continue to be held without bail, but at Friday’s hearing his attorneys reserved the right to request bail later. His next hearing was scheduled for Oct. 9.

Lloyd was a 27-year-old semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend. According to prosecutors, Hernandez orchestrated Lloyd’s killing for talking to some people with whom Hernandez had problems at a nightclub a few days earlier.

Attorneys for the defense say the state’s case won’t hold up because the evidence is circumstantial.

Hernandez was cut by the Patriots hours after his arrest.
