CANADA WINS CURLING GOLD
Given the dominance of the Canadian women curlers, it’s hard to believe Thursday was their first Olympic gold in the sport. In beating Sweden, 6-3, they erased the sting of losing to the Swedes in the gold-medal final in Vancouver four years ago.
Canada also became the first team to go through the competition unbeaten, winning all 11 games.
Skip Jennifer Jones is considered one of the best curlers in the world but she had never won an Olympic gold medal. Britain beat Switzerland, 6-5, in the bronze-medal game.
The Canadian men go against Britain in the gold-medal game on Friday.
Nordic combined: Norway won its second Nordic gold medal in three days when it won the large-hill team competition. The event combines ski jumping and cross-country. Joergen Graabak won Norway’s previous Nordic gold on Tuesday on the large hill.
Germany took the silver medal and Austria got the bronze.
The U.S. team of Bryan Fletcher, Taylor Fletcher, Todd Lodwick and Billy Demong finished sixth in the competition.
