Update: The Timbers haven’t scored a goal this season, and the Galaxy hasn’t allowed one, with Portland playing Real Salt Lake to a scoreless draw in its season opener, while the Galaxy were beating Chicago, 2-0. For the Timbers, the shutout was their fourth straight in MLS play, dating to last season. Ghana’s Adam Kwarasey recorded the latest clean sheet in his MLS and Timbers debut. The Galaxy, meanwhile, struggled for chemistry on the attacking end in its opener. But two players appeared close to midseason form, with Jose Villarreal replacing Landon Donovan in the left midfield and scoring the first goal, and defending most valuable player Robbie Keane notching the other late in the second half. Keane was later fined an undisclosed amount by the league for “unprofessional conduct” following his score. Brian Rowe was a surprise starter in goal in place of Jaime Penedo, who was slowed by injury during the preseason. Penedo is expected to be back in the lineup Sunday.
