Dez Bryant became the Dallas Cowboys’ all-time leader in touchdown receptions on Thursday night — and he did so after warming up with no shoes on.
That’s because he gave his cleats to a young fan named Darren, who was attending the game as part of the Make-A-Wish program.
The unconventional pregame warmups had no negative effect on Bryant’s play.
With the Cowboys up by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter, Bryant grabbed a 13-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott over Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland for a 24-7 Dallas lead. It was Bryant’s first touchdown reception since Oct. 22 and the 72nd of his career, the most ever for a member of the Cowboys.
Later in the quarter, Bryant drew an interference call against Breeland on the Redskins 1, setting up a touchdown run by Alfred Morris. The Cowboys went on to win 38-14 and improve to 6-6. Bryant finished with five receptions for 61 yards.
After the game, Bryant sought out another young friend he met through the Make-A-Wish program years ago in hopes of giving the boy his touchdown football, according to the Dallas Morning News.
“Dez has got a big heart,” team owner Jerry Jones said.
