Clippers Blake Griffin, Chris Paul selected to USA Basketball pool
Clippers All-Stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul were selected to the USA Basketball 2014-16 roster when the team was announced Thursday.
Griffin and Paul are among 28 NBA players chosen to compete for 12 roster spots for both the World Cup in Spain, which starts in late August, and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Griffin had been originally named to try out for the 2012 US Olympic team but suffered an injury and wasn’t able to compete.
But Griffin, who leads the Clippers in scoring (22.6 points) and is second in rebounds (10.0), is expected to compete for a spot this summer.
Paul already has won two gold medals for Team USA, in 2008 and 2012.
Paul, who is out with a Grade 3 AC joint separation of his right shoulder, is not expected to play this summer. But he is expected to play in his third Olympics in 2016.
