Another rant by Nebraska’s Bo Pelini leads to questions about future

You wonder how many more tirades Nebraska is going to tolerate.

Cornhuskers Coach Bo Pelini added another sideline rant to his resume Friday during his team’s 38-17 loss to Iowa.

Pelini was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct in the third quarter after he protested a pass-interference call. Pelini took off his hat and nearly hit an official as he punched the air with his fist.

Nebraska finished the regular season at 8-4 but has been under intense scrutiny by fans.

“If they want to fire me go ahead,” Pelini said after the game. “I believe in what I’ve done. I don’t apologize to you. I don’t apologize to anybody, myself or this staff.”

Pelini is 57-24 in his six years at Nebraska.

“This program is headed in a good direction,” Pelini said. “You choose not to think so, that’s your prerogative.”

Pelini has a contract through 2017 and makes $3 million per season.

At least one Nebraska player has Pelini’s back.

“I would play for Bo Pelini against Satan himself and the demons of the world,” junior receiver Kenny Bell said.
