Donovan McNabb says he will retire as a member of Eagles

Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid will be together again in Philadelphia one more time.

McNabb said on his NBC Sports Radio show Monday that he will retire as member of the Eagles this fall and will do so at a retirement ceremony on Sept. 19, when the Eagles host the Kansas City Chiefs in a nationally televised game.

And it just so happens that Reid is the new coach of the Chiefs, having been fired by the Eagles this off-season after 14 seasons as head coach.

The Eagles have not confirmed any of McNabb’s comments.

McNabb was Reid’s first draft pick as Philadelphia’s head coach, chosen second overall in 1999 to a resounding chorus of boos from Eagles fans present at the draft. The pair would go on to prove the naysayers wrong over the next 11 seasons, with five trips to the NFC championship game and one Super Bowl appearance.

Still, they never achieved the ultimate goal of winning a Lombardi Trophy and McNabb was traded to NFC East rival Washington before the 2010 season. After one lackluster season with the Redskins, he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings but didn’t even last a year.

McNabb spent last year out of football. In addition to his radio work, he also serves as a part-time analyst on the NFL Network.
