Usain Bolt isn’t worried about Tyson Gay’s fast times

With the track and field world championships fast approaching, Usain Bolt says he isn’t going to worry about the fast times that Tyson Gay has been posting this season.

“I never focus on one person,” Bolt said. “It doesn’t make sense.”

Gay ran the 100 meters in 9.79 seconds in Switzerland on Thursday, just a little slower than the season-best 9.75 he clocked at the U.S. nationals. The American sprinter also has 2013’s fastest 200-meter time at 19.74.

After some early season wobbles, Bolt recently decided to remain in Jamaica for extra training.

Now the Olympic champion and world record holder will try to show he has regained his form at an IAAF Diamond League meet in Paris on Saturday. He is scheduled to run the 200 for the second time this year, having recorded a 19.79 in Oslo three weeks ago.

“You want to dominate for the rest of your career,” he told reporters in France. “It’s going to be hard. It’s going to be challenging.”

The IAAF World Championships will be held in Moscow beginning Aug. 10.
