USC football: Safety Su'a Cravens a potential two-way threat

UCLA linebacker Myles Jack was selected as the Pac-12 Conference offensive player of the week after running for 120 yards in six carries Saturday in the Bruins’ 31-26 win at Arizona.

Former USC coach Lane Kiffin toyed in the past with using receiver Marqise Lee at defensive back but did not commit to making it happen with any regularity because of potential fatigue and injury.

USC interim Coach Ed Orgeron was asked on Sunday if he would consider playing freshman safety Su’a Cravens on offense.

As a senior at Vista Murrieta High, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Cravens caught 21 passes for 342 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards and six touchdowns in 17 carries.

“We think he has enough on his plate,” Orgeron said. “I wouldn’t mind him doing that in the near future if he’s willing to do it.

“I just don’t think we can afford to do it right now.”
