Watch Marcus Mariota lose his helmet and fumble on big hit [Video]

Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota went from big winner in Week 1 to the wrong end of the spectrum in Week 2.

The dual-threat quarterback got rocked on one particular play in a 28-14 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

After Mariota could not find an open receiver on a pass play as he rolled to his left, he began to scramble from the pocket. First he lost a shoe as he rushed toward the line of scrimmage.

Things then got worse. Browns defensive linemen Jamie Meder and John Hughes III sandwiched last spring’s No. 2 overall pick in the draft, sending Mariota’s helmet flying and forcing him to fumble. Linebacker Barkevious Mingo scooped up the loose ball for Cleveland.

Mariota opened his career with a four-touchdown performance in a 42-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend. He completed 13 of 16 passes for 209 yards.

On Sunday, he completed 21 of 37 passes for 257 yards with two touchdown passes in the second half and gained 19 yards in three carries. He was sacked seven times, though. One impressive stat: He has not had a pass intercepted so far.

In an understatement, Mariota told reporters after the game, “You understand this is a tough league and you can get beat anytime.”
