Nike brands the Opening as “football heaven.”

Receiver Trevon Sidney, from La Puente Bishop Amat High, is living in it.

Sidney arrived in Beaverton, Ore., on Tuesday to participate in the four-day football extravaganza.

And Day 1 didn’t even include a football.

Sidney joined 165 of the nation’s top high school players on a tour of the Nike World Headquarters, watched an opening ceremony and engaged in a life-skills workshop.

And he received Nike-branded clothing and equipment -- a lot of it.

“It’s so cool, it was a great experience,” Sidney said Tuesday, dressed from head to toe in Nike gear.

Perhaps it was fitting that Sidney said his favorite part of Day 1 was the workshop called “Brand U.”

“They showed us the positive and negative ways that we can brand ourselves,” he said.

Day 1 was a good experience, Sidney said, but he wanted it to be Day 2.

“I can’t wait for the one-on-ones,” he said.

Sidney will announce his college commitment on Friday. He has narrowed his list of offers to USC, UCLA, Washington, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Arizona and Utah.

USC and UCLA are thought to be the favorites.
