Baseball: Hart scores two runs in the seventh to pull out victory

Anthony Donatella of Saugus threw six shutout innings to help the Centurions hold a 1-0 lead over Hart in a game for first place in the Foothill League.

But Hart (20-4-1, 11-3), known for playing well in one-run games, saved its best for last. The Indians scored two runs with two out in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Saugus, 2-1, and clinch the No. 1 seed from the Foothill League. It was Hart’s fifth one-run game in its last six games and the Indians are 4-1.

Last season, Hart played 17 one-run games. “We learned,” Coach Jim Ozella said.

Paul Richan had the game-winning, two-run single with the bases loaded. Jack Ralston allowed four hits in pitching a complete game for Hart.

Valencia is one game behind Hart after a 4-1 win over Golden Valley. Kevin Chandler threw a complete game. Hart has the tiebreaker edge over Valencia. West Ranch defeated Canyon, 3-2. Sean O’Shea threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

In the Sunset League, Noah Kronfly threw eight innings and allowed five hits to spark Edison past No. 1 Fountain Valley, 1-0. Huntington Beach scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Los Alamitos, 7-6. Cooper Moore drove in the winning run. Daniel Amaral went three for three.

In the Mission League, Jack Flaherty improved to 9-0 by striking out 10 in Harvard-Westlake’s 2-1 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Tommy Wilson of Notre Dame allowed only one hit in defeat. Crespi defeated Alemany, 11-1. Justin Dehn struck out four and allowed five hits. Chris May had a triple, two singles and three RBIs. Chasen Gensurowsky and Calvin Estrada added two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Kale Morton improved to 10-0 to help Glendora defeat Alta Loma, 8-5, in the Baseline League. Justin Cage had two hits and two RBIs.

In the Almont League, Marco Briones struck out 13 and improved to 8-0 in Alhambra’s 13-2 win over Keppel. David Saldate and Julian Zermeno each had three hits.

In the Valle Vista League, Baldwin Park defeated Wilson, 10-3. Jordan Palacio allowed one hit in five innings to pick up his seventh victory.

Sophomore James Acuna retired the first 18 batters in order and had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings to help Cypress defeat Western, 5-1. He finished with nine strikeouts.Elijah Skipps hit a two-run home run. Cypress clinched at least a tie for the Empire League title.

In the South Coast League, Capistrano Valley stayed in first place with a 4-3 win over Tesoro. Chase Calabuig drove in the tiebreaking run. For the fifth straight start, junior Patrick Sandoval of Mission Viejo didn’t give up an earned run and the Diablos defeated Trabuco Hills, 2-0.

In the Sierra League, Chino Hills took over sole possession of first place with a 3-2, eight-inning win over Damien. Jake Taylor, who had three hits, drove in the winning run in the eighth. Grant Hockin struck out 11 for Damien. Ayala defeated South Hills, 8-3. Matthew Acosta had three hits.

In the Southwestern League, Vista Murrieta defeated Chaparral, 6-3. Angel Ortiz, JT McLellen, Hunter Tidwell and Benny Blackwell each had two hits. Sophomore Zack Noll (9-0) struck out five, walked none and allowed two hits in Great Oak’s 4-1 win over Murrieta Mesa. Mitchell Hayes had a home run and double.

In the Marmonte League, Agoura defeated Westlake, 4-1. Matt Lautz threw a five-hitter. Daniel Cipriano had a home run and Ryan Fineman, Albee Weiss and Dylan Bahr each had two hits. Thomas Ponticelli threw a four-hitter to lift Newbury Park past Simi Valley, 2-0, in eight innings. Jeff Tincher went three for three.

Kurt Johnson threw a complete game in Royal’s 4-1 win over Thousand Oaks, making Coach Dan Maye the winningest coach in Ventura County history.

In the Channel League, Santa Barbara clinched a playoff spot with a 7-1 win over San Marcos. Sophomore Kevin Gowdy struck out five and walked none.

In the Pacific View League, Camarillo defeated Hueneme, 4-3. Frankie Flores threw a complete game.

In the Bay League, Redondo defeated Peninsula, 3-1.

In the Trinity League, Santa Margarita and Orange Lutheran stayed tied for second place with wins. Dillon Miyashiro threw a one-hitter in Santa Margarita’s 5-0 win over St. John Bosco. Ryan Watts had three RBIs in Orange Lutheran’s 9-1 win over Servite.

In the Western League, Dalton Blumenfeld hit his fifth home run and Peter Rolen hit his third home run in Hamilton’s 6-2 win over Venice.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Hoover, 5-0. Tanner Carrico allowed one hit and struck out six. Michael Russo contributed three hits. Pasadena defeated Burroughs, 6-2. Summer Smith had a home run and two RBIs.

Northwood upset Beckman, 4-0. Brandon Kim threw a two-hitter.

Campbell Hall defeated Crossroads, 10-1. Ethan Miller threw a complete game with six strikeouts. Sloan Fischer, Antonio Brown and Sam Wyatt each had two hits. Charles Kwong had a two-run inside-the-park home run.

Sierra Canyon defeated Milken, 11-1. Zach Tavelman had three hits. Seth Stone improved to 7-0.

In the Olympic League, Village Christian defeated Heritage Christian, 12-0. Chris Davidson got the win.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Bishop Diego, 11-2. Michael Kress had two doubles and three RBIs.

Warren won its 12th consecutive game with a 14-4 win over Paramount. Alan Trejo and Joaquin Castillo were both three for three. Warren set a school record for wins at 25-4.
