Black Friday-Cyber Monday: 10 hotel deals worth checking out

If you go into travel-planning mode as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is over, knock yourself out with these 10 hotel deals coming up over Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

No need to leave the house to book a $99 room at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego or a $149 room at the J.W. Marriott Camelback Inn & Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz. Lots of hotels participate in the post-holiday discount fest -- and you should too if you’re ready to plan a break for winter and beyond.

Some caveats: Before you book, read the fine print on the deal you’re after. The prices below in most cases reflect a discount off the hotel’s best available rate. Tax and resort fees are extra. Blackout dates may apply, and the deal is based on availability.

California: Pacifica Hotels will take 40% off rooms at the hip new hostel-style Wayfarer in Santa Barbara, the Fireside Inn in Cambria and 13 other coastal hotels from San Diego to Half Moon Bay. This is a one-day-only sale available from a second after midnight to 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on Dec. 1. Bookings may be made for stays through March 12.

San Diego: Hard Rock Hotel San Diego will be offering rooms starting at $99 for its Black Friday-Cyber Monday blowout. The first five people who book a room on the hotel’s website will be upgraded to a Rock Star suite for free. The sale is on from just after midnight Nov. 28 through 11:59 p.m. Dec. 1.

San Diego: Paradise Point Resort & Spa on Mission Bay will take up to 45% off room prices during the four days from Black Friday on Nov. 28 to Cyber Monday on Dec. 1. Insider tip: Sign up for the hotel’s email or “like” the Facebook page and you’ll get early access to sale rates. Stays are good through April.

New York City: Welcome to something called the “power hour,” which stokes Cyber Monday savings at boutique hotel brand Triumph Hotels. Book Dec. 1 and you’ll find a 30% discount on rooms at the Iroquois New York, Hotel Chandler, Hotel Belleclaire, the Cosmopolitan, the Gershwin and the Washington Jefferson. Reserve during the power hour -- 1 to 2 p.m. Pacific time -- and get 50% off. Stays are good Dec. 2 to March 31.

New York City: The Jade Hotel in Greenwich Village offers travelers who book Dec. 1 a rate of $500 for two nights plus goodies such as a free bottle of Prosecco and $150 food credit at the hotel’s lobby, lounge, restaurant and room service. The deal is good for stays Jan. 2 through Feb. 28.

Arizona: The 125-acre J.W. Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale takes 42% off rooms and adds a round of golf for travelers who book Dec. 1. Sale prices on rooms start at $149 a night and are good Dec. 1-22, a sweet time to go, weather-wise, at this desert resort.

Arizona: The Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix offers rooms starting at $69 a night for bookings made between Nov. 28 and Dec. 1. The low rate applies to summer travel from May 25 to Sept. 7.

Brand-wide: Howard Johnson hotels in the U.S. and Canada are taking half-off their rates for travelers who book rooms on Dec. 3. Orange Wednesday, as they’re calling it, allows you to use the 50% discount for up to three nights. About 50 hotels are participating in the sale. To get the deal you must phone the property where you wish to stay.
