N.Y.’s Met to stay open until midnight for Alexander McQueen show
An exhibition of late fashion genius Alexander McQueen’s work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has wowed New Yorkers — so much so that the Met plans to stay open until midnight for the first time in its history on the final days of the show.
The Manhattan museum cited “unprecedented interest in this landmark retrospective” as the reason for extending hours Saturday and Sunday for “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.” The show has attracted about half a million visitors since it opened May 4 and had already been extended by a week, a museum statement says.
“Savage Beauty” features more than 100 ensembles and 70 accessories covering McQueen’s 16-year career, “from the majestic to the macabre,” L.A. Times staff writer Booth Moore wrote last month about the show. Check out some pieces in the exhibition.
McQueen committed suicide last year at the age of 40. Last month L.A.’s fashion world hosted a celebration of the exhibition at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
