Northern California: Cool free nights deal at CordeValle resort

Free nights with minimum stays have become common hotel come-ons, but here’s one I like for the luxe factor and the price. Pay for three nights and get two more nights free at the tony CordeValle resort in Northern California, making this a vacation-length getaway with real savings.

The deal: CordeValle is part of the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts brand and has just 45 rooms with a spa, vineyard and golf course, in San Martin, Calif. Where’s that? In the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Jose and north of the Monterey Peninsula.

The More Rosewood package starts at $369 a night plus tax, but that will be offset by the free nights. This room comes with daily breakfast too. Note the rate is nonrefundable, so choose dates wisely when you reserve. (You may cancel 14 or more days before without penalty.)

When: The offer is good through Sept. 30, subject to availability.

Tested: First, you won’t see the free nights until you make a reservation and receive an e-mail confirmation. Second, I checked availability for July 15-20 and found a room with a king bed, sitting area, Wi-Fi access and gas fireplace for $349 a night plus tax, slightly less than the advertised rate. With the free nights, the stay comes out to the much more affordable $209 a night plus tax.
