Californians get a break on rooms at classic Palm Springs resort

La Quinta Resort & Club turned into Bedford Falls? That’s the idea behind the 1926 resort’s holiday decorations inspired by the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
After Thanksgiving, the Palm Springs-area hotel will have decorations in place and offer free screenings of the movie, a chance to roast chestnuts -- and a special room rate for California residents.
The deal: The California Residents Rate at the resort with a PGA West golf course starts at $135 a night plus tax and requires a two-night stay. Residents must provide an ID such as a driver’s license when they check in. Use the code “EW” when making a reservation to get the discount.
When: The offer is good now through Jan. 10, based on availability. Also, some blackout dates apply.
Tested: I didn’t find the cheapest advertised price, but I found a room at the California Residents Rate available Dec. 14-16 for $149 plus tax. By comparison, the same room on the same nights would cost $169 for those who pay in full in advance or $199 for the best available rate plus tax. The deal also takes half off the $27 daily resort fee.
