Texas: Dine Ewing-style at ‘Dallas’ homestead Southfork Ranch

Southfork Ranch of “Dallas” TV show fame invites you for dinner -- in style. The sprawling home turned tourist attraction in Parker, Texas, for the first time will host romantic insider tours with dinner in what for decades has been best known as the Ewing family mansion.

The Ewing Sunset Dinner Package for two features a private guided tour of rooms based on oil-family characters from the original 1978 TV series: Jock’s living room, Bobby’s boardroom and matriarch Miss Ellie’s suite. (The rooms aren’t authentic to the show; they were added during a $14-million makeover after exterior shots of the 340-acre spread made the house a sought-after star.)

After the tour and a glass of wine on the balcony of J.R.’s bedroom, it’s off to the Ewing family dining room. Texas beef (Kansas City strip or rib-eye), smoked baked potatoes and apple cobbler with cinnamon ice cream are some of the menu options. Guests also receive a $250 gift card to the Lincolns and Longhorns western wear boutique.

Southfork has been open for tours since 1985 with a visitor center, conference center, rodeo grounds as well as cattle and horses. And there’s more “Dallas” memorabilia too: Jock Ewing’s Lincoln Continental that was used in the original show resides here. Southfork draws about 400,000 visitors a year on its daily tours, according to owner Forever Resorts.

The 2012 revival of “Dallas” is now in its second season and has a funeral planned in an upcoming episode for the real-life J.R., Larry Hagman, who died Nov. 23 at age 81.
