‘Heroes’ walk among us; ‘Stars’ dance in our midst

You’ll talk about: “Heroes.” It may not have won big (or at all) at the Emmys, but “Heroes” can boast of being one of the few shows last season that was a commercial success while racking up critical acclaim (“Ugly Betty,” we haven’t forgotten you!). This week, the show that turned Hayden Panettiere into a tabloid star returns. (Monday)

You should already be talking about: “Dancing With the Stars.” It’s an awesome lineup this year! Jennie Garth, Scary Spice, billionaire Mark Cuban, Marie Osmond, Wayne Newton . . . we could go on and on. The producers seem to know what they have on their hands, and they intend to milk it. The season kicks off with a three-night debut. (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)

We’re already talking about: “Knocked Up” on DVD. That’s because we got an advance copy and gave it to our husband, who has been watching it nonstop ever since. How is that possible, you ask? Because it has two hours of bonus material! Did you know the Asian doctor who delivers the baby is actually a real doctor? (Tuesday)

We think you should talk about: Joni Mitchell’s new CD. Mitchell was our mom’s favorite singer from the ‘60s, so naturally we never listened to her. Then the rapper Common told a reporter, “She’s soul man. I love Joni Mitchell,” and we were inspired to borrow a few of Mom’s CDs. It turned out both Common and Mom were right! This week Mitchell releases “Shine” (see Ann Powers’ review on Page F12, her first album of new music in 10 years. We’re on it. (Tuesday)

We doubt you’ll talk about: “Game Plan.” This movie looks entirely predictable and uninteresting -- a tough-as-nails bachelor football player discovers he has a 7-year-old daughter and high jinks and tenderness ensue. If Vin Diesel were starring, this would be an automatic pass, but instead it’s Diesel look-a-like the Rock, who is our favorite of all the wrestlers turned actors (and that’s not saying much).
