‘American Idol’ winner Candice Glover to issue debut ‘Music Speaks’ July 16

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Candice Glover was crowned the winner of “American Idol” Thursday night, but her new record label has already fired up a supercharged promo machine by quickly announcing details of her debut album.

More than 10 years into the Fox singing competition, the winner’s post-“Idol” debut is being prepped quicker than ever, with pre-orders already available.

Glover’s debut, “Music Speaks,” will arrive July 16 — just two months to the date of her “Idol” victory.

The move, while quite aggressive, is a brilliant marketing plan on the part of “Idol” and 19 Recordings/Interscope Records.

“Idol” winners usually cut their disc during the annual post-show summer tour that takes the finalists to venues across the country. For many, the harsh reality is that the trek ends up being the last of their 15 minutes. What’s left of the public attention from the season shifts toward the winner’s coronation album that arrives in the fall.

With the 40-date Idol tour set to kick off June 29, it’s likely that Interscope head honcho and in-house “Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine will have Glover tucked away in the studio with heavy hitmakers cutting the record before she hits the road.

Rushing Glover’s project — her stunning coronation single, “I Am Beautiful,” is free with pre-orders — shows label brass is looking to ensure she doesn’t fall victim to “Idol’s” proverbial treadmill where past winners have lost their relevance by summer’s end.

The quick announcement of “Music Speaks” means plans to position the winner were long in the making.

Glover and runner-up Kree Harrison probably shot what would be their respective album artwork (Glover’s cover was released with the announcement) and met with Iovine to get an idea of the direction of their debut as the competition was winding down.

Having an album out so early into the tour will provide Glover with new material to tease on the road in front of huge crowds, which will surely beef up the profile of the album.

Iovine, who gets dibs on all the contestants, will almost certainly ink numerous contestants to deals — especially Harrison and the rest of the all-female Top 5 who fiercely dominated the competition.

It was clear Glover, the 23-year-old R&B-soul; diva from St. Helena Island, S.C., would easily take the “Idol” crown early into the competition. She quickly became a judges’ favorite, and viewers could easily fall for her with a booming voice and stellar takes on the Cure, Bruno Mars, Emeli Sande and Adele. Glover also had an emotional and inspirational backstory as a sweet travel agent who needed confidence after being rejected from the competition — twice.

A week after “Music Speaks” arrives in stores Glover and her “Idol” cohorts will take to the same stage where she was crowned the first female victor since 2007 when the “American Idol Live!” tour stops at Nokia Theatre. Fans can pre-order the disc from Glover’s newly launched official website.
