Adam Levine’s ‘Animals’ video gets a collective thumbs down

Model Behati Prinsloo stars with her new husband Adam Levine in the video for his band Maroon 5’s “Animals.” In the video, Levine comes across as incredibly creepy -- think serial killer creepy -- stalking Prinsloo and enacting sex scenes with her while both are covered in blood. “I’ve already washed my eyes 100 times,” writes Allison P. Davis at the Cut blog after viewing some GIFs from the video.
Davis isn’t alone. A sexual assault support group called RAINN says the video is a “stalker’s fantasy.” In a statement issued Wednesday, RAINN Vice President Katherine Hull Fliflet said, “Maroon 5’s video for ‘Animals’ is a dangerous depiction of a stalker’s fantasy — and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance.” [Huffington Post]
And Charlotte Alter, writing for Time, put it this way: “Adam Levine rolling around in blood and pretending to be a murderous stalker is scary enough. But casting his real-life-wife as his target suggests that this kind of stalkerdom has some place in healthy relationships, like violence is the underside of love. And coming off the summer of domestic violence stories, that’s the last thing anyone needs to see.” [Time]
So as an alternative, I’m posting the photo above of the couple looking, well, like normal people in love, at this year’s Emmys.
