Earthquake: 4.2 quake strikes near Joshua Tree, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported Saturday evening 39 miles from Joshua Tree, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 7:06 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 0 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 41 miles from Twentynine Palms, Calif.; 41 miles from Yucca Valley, Calif.; 43 miles from Barstow, Calif.; and 256 miles from Phoenix.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
