Earthquake: Magnitude 3.1 quake strikes near Banning

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Thursday morning about six miles from Banning, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 7:10 a.m. PDT at a depth of 9.9 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 11 miles from Beaumont and14 miles from Yucaipa, Calif.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
