Earthquake: Magnitude 3.4 quake strikes near Ferndale, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Saturday morning near Ferndale on California’s northern Pacific Coast, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:51 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 10.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was four miles from Ferndale, nine miles from Fortuna, 21 miles from Eureka and 26 miles from Bayside.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
