All lanes of the westbound 210 Freeway transition road to the northbound 5 Freeway in Sylmar were closed Monday afternoon after a fatal collision involving a big rig and several vehicles, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly after 4 p.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Westbound motorists were blocked from entering the Newhall Pass and were being detoured onto the southbound 5 Freeway, officials said.
