Fire at plastics recycling center is under control

A blaze at a plastics recycling center that injured two firefighters has been controlled, Riverside city fire officials said Wednesday.

Firefighters remained throughout the day at Unlimited Plastics to guard against resurgence of the fire, he said. The blaze erupted about 5 p.m. Tuesday, sending dark plumes of smoke into the air and closing both sides of the 215 Freeway for several hours.

Two firefighters suffering fatigue and smoke inhalation were taken to Riverside Community Hospital. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
