Baseball: Burroughs takes over first place in Pacific League

It might be time to start paying attention to the Burroughs Indians.

They took over sole possession of first place in the Pacific League on Friday night with a 4-3 win over Crescenta Valley. It was the second time this season the Indians (19-4, 9-1) had knocked off Crescenta Valley. They earlier won, 1-0.

Thomas Wilson threw five innings for the win. Ryan Galan had two hits and Tyler Lewis had two RBI. Max DeAmicis got the save, getting the final out with the tying run on third.

In the Trinity League, Tristan Hanoian went three for three to lead Orange Lutheran past Mater Dei, 9-3. Nathan Flores had a grand slam.

JSerra strengthened its hold on first place with a 6-3 win over St. John Bosco and a sweep of the Braves. Jack Owen struck out six. Servite defeated Santa Margarita, 8-1.

Valencia ended Cypress’ eight-game win streak with a 5-3 victory in the Empire League (corrected score).

Dominic Fletcher had a home run and Brandon Alamo contributed two RBI for Cypress.

In the South Coast League, Aliso Niguel pulled out a 3-2 win over Dana Hills on Eric Wagaman’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh. Zak Nocon allowed four hits in six innings for Aliso Niguel.

In the Southwestern League, Jack Moberg faced 22 batters and threw a one-hitter in Vista Murrieta’s 1-0 win over Murrieta Mesa. Great Oak defeated Temecula Valley, 8-2. Mitch Hayes and Trey Endris each had three RBI. Zack Noll struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings.

Brett Conine threw a two-hitter in El Modena’s 5-0 win over Esperanza. He struck out 11 and walked one.

In the Mission League, Loyola defeated Crespi, 10-5. Henry Stellwagen gave up one hit in four innings. Derek Marshall hit two home runs. Diego Harris, Matt Cassin and Calvin Estrada each had two hits for Crespi. Alemany defeated Chaminade, 12-3. Ruben Cardenas had six RBI with a three-run double and three-run home run.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated St. Francis, 2-1. Colin Brophy ended the game with a bases loaded walk in the seventh. Hunter Greene of Notre Dame threw a complete game, striking out 11, walking one and allowing two hits. JT Tyler was the tough-luck loser. Brophy had an RBI double.

In the Sunset League, Edison defeated Marina, 3-1. Noah Kronfly threw a complete game. Kevin Ando had two hits. Fountain Valley defeated Los Alamitos, 3-2, in 10 innings. JT Navarro went four for four and Travis Burleson threw six shutout innings of relief. Huntington Beach defeated Newport Harbor, 4-2. Daniel Amaral had three hits.

Mira Costa defeated Inglewood, 19-1. Blake Hammerstein hit a grand slam and finished with seven RBI.

In the Baseline League, Etiwanda defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 5-1. Aaron Sheridan threw the complete game. Damien defeated Chino Hills, 8-7.

In the Del Rey League, Serra defeated Bishop Amat, 10-0 (corrected score). Cathedral defeated La Salle, 17-11. Omar Veloz had four hits.

Foothill defeated Brea, 9-3.

Royal defeated Simi Valley, 7-6, in eight innings. Cory Baxter had the go-ahead RBI. Matt Sciumbato had a triple, single and two RBI.

In the Foothill League, Hart defeated West Ranch, 8-3. Paul Richan threw the complete game. Valencia defeated Saugus, 9-1. Cole Kleszcz and Anthony Lepre hit home runs.

Sierra Canyon defeated Viewpoint, 11-1. Karl Kani, Seth Stone and Beau Zacharia each had three hits.

In the Palomares League, Glendora defeated Claremont, 10-1. Austin Isenhart struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings. Ayala defeated South Hills, 9-4. Matthew Acosta had a home run and four RBI. Bonita defeated Diamond Bar, 7-4.

Santa Barbara defeated Ventura, 13-2. Trevor Moropoulos threw a complete game. Carter Soto had a two-run double and an RBI single.

In the Moore League, Lakewood took over first place with 7-1 win over Long Beach Wilson. Ryan Hare struck out 10. Long Beach Millikan defeated Long Beach Poly, 9-2.

Village Christian is 10-0 in the Olympic League after a 6-0 win over Valley Christian. Jesse Hanckel threw a two-hit shutout.

Danny Zimmerman hit two home runs and finished with eight RBI to power Redondo past Peninsula, 18-1.
