Dr. Phil lose to Mardy Fish?

Get real, as relationship specialist and talk-show host Dr. Phil McGraw, would say.

McGraw and partner Mark Philippoussis, who is No. 45 in the ATP entry-system rankings, beat No. 18-ranked Fish and comedian Jon Lovitz, 5-4, giving McGraw his third victory in three years in the annual Gibson/Baldwin Night at the Net benefit event Monday night at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA.

“I pick good partners,” said McGraw, who won with Andre Agassi two years ago and with Gustavo Kuerten last year. “These guys are so generous. I’m under no illusions.”

Fish and Phil, who plays tennis every day for exercise, traded overhead flares during warmups and backhand volleys at the net during the match before Philippoussis served out the victory.

Mike and Bob Bryan, the top-ranked doubles team in the world, split up for another match, playing with Mathew St. Patrick of HBO’s “Six Feet Under” and Kaley Cuoco of “8 Simple Rules.” Bob Bryan and Cuoco, who at one time took tennis lessons from the Bryans’ mother, Kathy Bryan, for several years, beat Mike Bryan and St. Patrick, 10-8, in a hastily completed second celebrity match.

The event was a fund-raiser for MusiCares, a health-related charity established in 1989 for the benefit of music-industry professionals.

Celebrities besides McGraw who participated included actors Danny Aiello, Lovitz, and St. Patrick, actor/comedian Paul Rodriguez, comedian Fred Willard, morning television personality Jillian Barberie and the musical group Wilson Phillips also participated.

Total proceeds raised at the event will not be known for several days, but the officials said more than 6,000 tickets were sold, including 400 to VIPs who also attended a benefit dinner .

Glenn Weiner hasn’t had a day off from tennis in two weeks, but he isn’t complaining after hip, elbow and shoulder injuries nearly ended his career.

Weiner, 28, came from behind to beat Hyung-Taik Lee of South Korea, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, Monday in a first-round match of the Mercedes-Benz Cup tournament at UCLA and is at a career-best No. 128 in the entry-system rankings.
