Player scores 113 points in Lebanese pro basketball league game

Mohammad El-Akkari, a guard for the Mouttahed basketball team of Tripoli, scored 113 points in his team’s 173-141 win over Bejjeh in a Lebanese Division A pro league game Tuesday night in Beirut, according to FIBAasia.net.

If that’s not amazing enough, El-Akkari came into the game averaging just 7.6 points. But according to the website, he made 40 of 69 shots, including 32 of 59 from three-point territory. All of this brings up the question: Does April Fool’s Day fall on April 3 in the Lebanese pro basketball league?

“Thank God for this performance. I think it’s all a result of my practice,” Akkari told the website.

“I also want to thank my coach for letting me play that long and all my teammates for helping,”

Teammate Austin Johnson, who played college ball at Oklahoma, had this to say: “He was awesome tonight. He starting out shooting the ball very well and just continued to go. Our team realized that he was on fire so we kept feeding him the ball. Congrats to Akkari on a record-setting night. He deserves it from the way he works and stays focused.”

One thing we can learn from this is that apparently “play some D” is more of a request than a command from coaches in the Lebanese pro league. Also, if you want to score 113 points in a game, just shoot the ball 69 times (don’t get any bright ideas, Kobe).
