Dwyane Wade says Game 2 is a ‘must-win’ for Miami Heat

MIAMI -- Dwyane Wade has won two championships and been to the NBA Finals one other time before this year. The Miami Heat guard has a pretty good idea of what constitutes an important game.

So it was revealing to hear him size up Game 2 in the NBA Finals, which takes place Sunday at American Airlines Arena.

“Obviously you don’t want to go down 0-2, going to San Antonio for three straight games,” Wade said Saturday. “Odds are not that good. They are not in our favor.

“We’re not a team that really says too much ‘this is a must-win game,’ but this is a must-win game.”

Odds wouldn’t be in Miami’s favor at all, actually.

Only three of 31 teams have come back from 0-2 deficits to win the NBA Finals -- Boston against the Lakers (1969), Portland against Philadelphia (1977) and, coincidentally, Miami against Dallas (2006).

Wade was on that 2006 team. He’s confident this team won’t fall behind 0-2, which would mark Miami’s first two-game losing streak since January, when the Heat fell on the road to Indiana and Portland.

“Great day of work today for us,” he said after Miami finished practice. “And I think it’s going to help us [Sunday].”
